President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities: 2001-2008

This publication highlights the synergy of collaborations the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities (PCAH) forged with each of the cultural agencies—NEA, NEH, and IMLS over the last eight years, opening new opportunities for international cultural relations from expanding programs with Mexico to catalyzing groundbreaking initiatives with China to launching new programs like AFI Project: 20/20. In addition, the book documents how the PCAH moved the First Lady's interests forward in youth arts and humanities learning by expanding Coming Up Taller, in preservation by raising the profile of Save America's Treasures, and in special initiatives like the National Medals by making it a White House signature event.

Los Angeles artists, entrepreneurs, and business leaders through film, television, and digital media affect cultural perceptions and realities everywhere. This report summarizes the perspectives of these leaders and the many PCAH members that are a part of this creative community. Together they explain the creation and dissemination of film, television, digital media, and popular culture, and explore ways to enlist these media to increase international understanding. The Symposium catalyzed a new PCAH partnership with American Film Institute and the cultural agencies—N EA, NEH and IMLS.
